POSITION PURPOSE:
To provide mental health services to severely emotionally disturbed children, adolescents and their families in the clinic and in the schools.

QUALIFICATIONS:
M.A. in psychology or related field, at least 1 year of experience providing mental health services to severely emotionally disturbed children, adolescents and their families.  Must be registered with the BBS or BOP if not licensed in the state of CA. 

SPECIAL SKILLS:
Good clinical, organizational and documentation skills.  Flexibility to do several tasks simultaneously.  Experience working in schools and bilingual capability a plus.

PSYCHIATRIST

Organization Description
Child & Family Center was founded in 1976 as St. Stephen’s Special School to assist children with emotional learning and behavioral problems by helping their parents learn better ways to parent.  Now 36 years later, the Child & Family Center provides comprehensive prevention, early intervention, diagnostic evaluation and therapeutic services for children, teens, adults, and families.

Opportunity
Child & Family Center is seeking a part-time (11-15 hours per week) Doctor of medicine to specialize in young adult/adult psychiatry needed for 11-15 hours per week; The Psychiatrist receives referrals for evaluation from agency therapists, to examine, evaluate, diagnose and treat psychiatric disorders.  Provides follow-up, psycho education and support to clients and families.  Reviews case histories and keeps clinical records in accordance with Department of Mental Health requirements.  Is available for periodic consultations with therapists and participates in utilization review meetings.  Works closely with clinical staff as needed in treatment of agency clients.


Requirements

  • Possess current M.D. licensure in the state of California.
  • Valid DEA License
  • Bilingual English/Spanish desired
  • Maintains own professional liability insurance and acceptable child abuse and criminal clearance required.
  • Current California driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the Agency’s policy.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in community mental health preferred.
  • Know and comply with Agency policies and procedures, HIPAA, DMH policies and documentation guidelines, and other state, federal regulations relating to QA/QI.
  • Demonstrate medical/clinical leadership skills, a complete working knowledge of pscyhopharmacy and experience in mental health service delivery to a broad based individual and multi-cultural patient populations.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience as a Psychiatrist in an outpatient setting.
  • Possess good computer skills; familiarity with MS Word and Outlook; demonstrated ability to utilize electronic progress note system. 
  • Utilize analysis, experience and judgment to make decisions.

Duties and Responsibilities –Essential

  • Works closely as a part of the treatment team with the therapists, case manager and includes families in the evaluation process.
  • Prescribes psychotropic medication as needed, provides follow up and psycho education regarding medication and possible side effects, is available 24/7 as needed in case of emergencies.  Orders laboratory and other special diagnostic data.
  • Coordinates treatment with hospital psychiatrist in case of hospitalization.
  • Keeps paperwork in accordance with DMH regulations and procedures.
    • Participates in regular utilization reviews of clinical charts and consultation with Therapists
    • Have experience working with DMH clients (preferred)
    • Possess the ability to interact, communicate and display sensitivity to a diverse population of clients.
