Michael's Story

The high school junior came from a great family with involved parents. Michael* was a good student, pulling straight A’s while maintaining a thriving network of friends. He was healthy and athletic, well-liked by his fellow students, and active in school activities.
Then came the voices.
This promising young man began having problems at school, both academically and socially. His grades plummeted. His home, for so long a haven of happiness, became a battleground between the boy and his parents and siblings.
Michael was hearing the voices – the ones telling him to commit suicide.
Fortunately, the Child & Family Center was here to help. Michael was referred for treatment at the Center by a Child & Family school-based counselor at his school. He and his family were immediately assigned to an out-patient therapist who soon concluded that Michael was developing a serious mental health disorder that, if left untreated, could have led to the worst outcome possible.
We feel fortunate that because of our comprehensive services, we were able to help Michael’s family and to stem the dangerous tide of mental illness for this young man. The family grew to understand what was happening to him and to support him in taking the proper steps in treatment that would bring him back to good health.
Today, Michael is once again enjoying his family, reconnecting with friends, and thriving at school. As a senior, he is planning for college and looking forward to a healthy, productive future.
We believe our services are life-changing, even life-saving. Along with hundreds of others in crisis, Michael’s family was helped at Child & Family Center in large measure because of the generosity of our neighbors in Santa Clarita…neighbors just like you. Through their charitable contributions our services have made all the difference for hundreds of Michaels.
As you plan your holiday giving, won’t you please consider a gift to the Child & Family Fund? By joining the Circle of Friends today, you’ll help us continue to provide struggling families like Michael’s – maybe even a family you know. Click here to donate now.
