Our consultation services have been designed to support public and private preschools in meeting their students’ social-emotional needs. Our consultation team will present formal trainings, consult with teachers and staff, observe classrooms and teachers, and offer short-term counseling & referral services to students and families that have been identified as needing more targeted support.
Infants and Toddlers Mental Health
For Parents and caregivers with children ages infant to five
Therapists use therapeutic play to help parents understand developmental stages, open up communication and strengthen the parent child relationship. Play sessions between the caregiver or parent and the child are videotaped under the watchful eye of a therapist. Later, the two adults view the video and together are able to identify behaviors of both the child and the parent and how they interact.
The program helps parents better understand what their child is telling them and promotes a feeling of success as they respond to their child. It also affords an opportunity for screening and developmental assessments and evaluations.
Mental Health Services
Clinic-and home-based mental health therapy services are available for families of children in the 0-5 age range that are exhibiting behavioral and social-emotional difficulties that are negatively impacting their development and ability to thrive. Our therapeutic approach is relationship based. The clinician supports the child and caregiver in strengthening their bond and empowering the parent to learn the skills needed to improve their child’s behavior and functioning. Our team also supports families in linking to other services like special education, Regional Center, or community based resources, and provides developmental screening for all clients. We currently serve children with Medi-Cal, Healthy Families, and we offer a fee-for-service option for those without Medi-Cal.
Parenting classes are available for parents of children 0-5. The class is typically held from 6:00-7:30 pm for six weeks and is offered 2-3 times each year. This class is offered to clients of Child and Family Center as part of their treatment services as well as to community members.
